Just the mention of Veteran TV personalities and the first thing that comes to my mind, and that of Millions of Kenyans I believe, is Catherine Kasavuli and Njoroge Mwaura. It seems that age has finally caught up with Njoroge Mwaura, if James Smart is to be believed,

and has finally decided to retire gracefully from the silver screen… hoping that this time the Standard Group, and all other TV stations known to poach good talent, will let him retire in peace.

You see, sometimes last year, Mr. Njoroge had taken a Hiatus from the silver screen only to be recalled back when the Standard was restructuring with its new boss, Sam Sholei, took over.

Njoroge is a well known TV personality in Kenya, especially when KTN was the Chanel of Choice for all Kenyans, before it went down the drain and became another statistic. He has inspired and nurtured many a journalists that is for a fact that can never be disputed.

Njoroge Mwaura is yet to announce his retirement officially, well at least in the social media. Seeing as it is he is an Analog, I mean, there is no one at this time and age whose twitter handle would have been updated like a month or so ago…

hard-faced Njoroge Mwaura

His twitter handle as of this writing reflects the story of the late Mutula Kilonzo, and he only has 40 tweets in total, compared to Larry Madowo’s 35,657 as of this writing, now you understand why dude has to go home. I mean, updating the social media and keeping up with the latest technological advancements may have taken a really huge toil on his memory…

Immediately stories of his retirement hit the social media platforms, KOTs (Kenyans on Twitter just for clarifications for our esteemed analogs) were up in arms calling for the resignation of one Catherine Kasavuli. I mean, the memories I have of Catherine Kasavuli are the same I have of retired president Daniel Arap Moi, I mean, she is that analog in my mind.

RT @seancardo: With Njoroge Mwaura retiring as news anchor, I think it’s time for Catherine Kasavuli to follow too.. she’s been struggling of late.

Her talent is unquestionable here, and her grace and charm in the silver screen are equally unquestionable. Just like Mwaura Njoroge, Catherine Kasavuli has inspired very many young journalists, but that is the much she has done… I believe its time she lets the young journalists live their dream.

The only way she can do that is to get the hell off the screen and do some other things off the camera, like supplying sanitary towels to young girls in Rural schools (Marsabit,Kajiado, Moyale, Turkana and the likes) and giving health talks in secondary schools on how to remain young and beautiful even when you are fast approaching Menopause.

Catherine Kasavuli is without a shadow of a doubt past her sell date and here at Msema Kweli we are hoping that Njoroge Mwaura’s retirement is a wakeup call to her. Her retirement is long overdue, I mean, where will all the beautiful and camera-friendly young men and women graduating from Journalism schools in Kenya really go if the old dogs refuse to give way, really?

It’s too unfortunate that in Africa, and particularly in Kenya, people don’t know when to call it quits.  I believe the best way you can leave a legacy behind is to quit when you are at the epitome of your success. This is the best memory you will leave behind, otherwise, you will start a very fast downward spiral and you will end up remembered for all the bad reasons.

Ask one Honorable William Ole Ntimama, who is now more famous for his great contribution in the adult diapers industry than his contributions when being an Honorable Member of Parliament for as long as my memory serves me right. Did he ever do anything to be remembered for in his Narok North constituency? Well that’s a story for another day.
