There has been rising speculations over the condition of Mandela. Contrary to many reports of Mandela’s death, the South African freedom hero is still alive. However, his condition has been worsening over the past couple of days and we can only hope for the best.
Mandela has been hospitalized from 8th June and since then information about his progress has not been readily available. The speculation of Madiba’s death came up as a result of a trip to Mozambique that the South African president cancelled.
Many well wishers and supporters of Nelson Mandela are gathered just outside the hospital and this proves to be a very emotional time for South Africans and many of his other supporters around the world as well. The African hero was admitted at the Pretoria Hospital due to a lung infection.
President Obama is scheduled to visit South Africa but there are no reports if he will be able to visit Madiba in hospital.
As much as many would wish that Nelson Mandela pulls through this situation, many are accepting the fact that the African hero might be on his last lap. Others say that it is better the hero finally rests in peace other than going through a lot of pain as he is doing now. They say that what he has gone through for the people of South Africa to gain independence is enough pain.
Nelson Mandela was jailed for around 27 years for the struggle of South African independence. He fought for equality and was against the white minority rule in South Africa. This made him gain a lot of respect not only in South Africa but all around the world.
Mandela was released in prison in 1990 and won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. He was then elected president of South Africa in 1994 which her served for one term.
What the South African Government Said About the” Mandela Dead” Speculation
The South African presidential spokesman on Tuesday that Nelson Mandela was still alive contrary to the speculations. His condition however deteriorated over the weekend. The spokesman talked about the trip of South African President Jacob Zuma to Mozambique.
He said that the president cancelled the trip owing to consultations with Mandela’s doctors. A statement from the office of the South African president said he:
“reiterated his gratitude on behalf of government, to all South Africans who continue to support the Madiba family”.
This move is seen by many that the condition of Mandela is worsening and therefore any time he might be no more. The president of South Africa warned against speculations of the death of Mandela affirming the citizens that the former South African President is still alive.
The spokesman of the office of the South African president was quick to criticize some media outlets who were quick to “kill” Mandela even before he is actually dead. Many media houses and websites have gone out to spread the rumour that Mandela is dead. It is only fair that we let the hero fight his last fight, if it is his last for that matter.
We all wish him a quick recovery because he is one figure in Africa that gets unconditional love and respect. Keep fighting Madiba.
